누군가의 작업실. 초대된 사람들이 만날 수 없는 사람과의 사랑 이야기를 들려준다. 먼 곳에 사는 애인, 연예인, 책 속의 인물… 그 중 하나의 이야기가 영화 속 영화로 보여진다. 모습을 드러내지 않고 목소리로만 존재하는 책 속의 화자는 떠나온 애인과의 추억을 회상한다. 유부녀인 여자를 만나서 사랑에 빠지지만 그녀가 백혈병에 걸렸음을 알고 헤어졌다가 다시 만나는 이야기. 영화의 후반부, 이 모든 것이 작업실을 소유한 누군가의 상상임이 밝혀진다.
Written on the Body adapted Jeanette Winterson’s novel for the screen only by re-editing the clips of movies starring Nicole Kidman. The novel is a simple story; love found, love lost, love found again - maybe. The unnamed narrator falls for a married woman called Louise. As they fall in love, Louise leaves her husband. However, finding Louise has cancer, the narrator leaves her to expect that she will be looked after by her husband, a doctor.
