한 중국 민요는 “가난한 부부가 불행한 부부다”라고 노래한다. 젊은 부부들은 열정적인 사랑에 빠져있을지는 모르지만 여전히 현실과 마주해야한다. 아내의 매춘은 가난한 부부의 경제적 문제를 해결하는 가장 빠른 길인 듯하다. 술은 상황의 압력을 누그러뜨리고, 친근한 미소와 잔인한 비웃음 사이의 경계를 흐리는데 도움을 준다. 더 이상 가난의 현실과 마주할 수 없었던 아내는 그녀의 남편과 아이를 떠나기로 결심한다.
사람들은 언제나 결혼의 실패에 대해 슬퍼하려고 한다. 그러나 결혼이 실패했을 때 남은 아이들이 느낄 외로움과 무력감, 성장하며 겪게 될 무관심만 떼어놓고 생각해 보자. 남들도 하니까 하는 모방적인 결혼, 짝 찾기는 사람들이 그들이 절대 가질 수 없는 것을 원하기 때문에 일어나는 일일 뿐이다.
A Chinese folk saying goes, "A poor couple is a miserable couple". Young couples may be madly in love, but still have to face the reality of life. Prostitution of the wife seems to be the fastest way to solve the financial problem of the poor couple. Alcohol helps to alleviate the pressure and to blur the line between a friendly smile and a cruel ridicule. Unable to to face the reality of poverty, the wife chooses to leave her husband and her child. People always tend to lament the failure of a marriage, but forget how lonely and helpless the children might feel and the how much negligence they have to undergo when growing up. All the imitations and searching are just because they long for what they will never get.
